I began our reminder-based mobile app by creating a style-tile that included calming colors such as those found in the sea, inspiring images, icons, button examples, and a flowing line graphic which we would reference later. Ultimately, we decided to move forward with a different logo than the coral bell logo I had initially designed.
Following my style tile and our research as references, we then created preliminary app screens as part of our sitemap-mock-up to highlight the order of events users should take.
Finally, we then finalized each screen in Adobe XD, referencing the sitemap closely. The finished app prototype can be viewed here.
I began by looking at the author's quick sketch of his vision for the book cover. He wanted a book cover design that highlighted one house in a normal neighborhood. This house would visually relate to the title and concept of the book in which the author had to navigate his way "through the desert," a metaphor for his life's greatest trial. I was asked to represent this struggle and create a house
I based my design upon this photo the author shared with me, collaboratively working with the author, his editors, and board members to form the concept.
Referencing the original drawing and the photo, and using my imagination to fill in some of the gaps, I spent several weeks designing, moving, and playing around with different ways to portray the concept of hope amid trials. From there, I ultimately landed on the final book cover design.
I started off my research by creating a number of style tiles to reference for my new logo. I wanted to keep BJ's original red color while also incorporating a crisp, modern gradient.
Referencing my style tile, I was able to come up with two logo variations. I stuck with a simple tri-color palette and carefully selected typography that I would then edit by rounding corners and loosely mirroring BJ's original logo.
Finally, becauase BJ's is all about membership exclusivity, I used my two logo variations to mock-up three membership card options.
